The JCC offers a variety of ways that teens can get involved in the community.
The JCC is gearing up to expand its programming for middle and high school students. Please contact our Youth Director, Deborah Huerta, to get involved or contribute ideas. Goals for 2008 include:
Forming a Teen Board with representatives from all the
local Jewish teen organizations.
Organizing teen social outings, community
service activities and visits to local Hillels.
Fielding teams to the Maccabi
games in August.
Supporting the activities of the Echad BBYO chapter and
reenergizing the BBYO Teen Connection program for 7th and 8th grade students.
JCC/ BBYO Teen Connection Programs
Teen Connection is a youth group designed
especially for Jewish 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Co-sponsored by the
Washtenaw County Jewish Community Center and the national B'nai B'rith Youth
Organization, Teen Connection offers a variety of social, cultural,
recreational, athletic and Judaic events for Jewish youth. Each month Teen
Connection participants will have the opportunity to meet and interact with
other Jewish youth while taking part in exciting programming and events.

Echad BBYO
The
JCC Youth/ Teen Director acts as a community liaison and administrative resource
of the B'nai B'rith Youth Organization. The group is open to Jewish teens
in 9-12th grades and provides social events, social service activities and
leadership training experiences throughout the year.
Echad, the Ann Arbor chapter of the B'nai B'rith Youth Organization, is excited to introduce Michelle Stern-Samberg, Ph.D., a child and family psychologist, as its new advisor. Michelle was very involved in BBYO as a teenager, serving as President of her local chapter and Michigan Region, as well as Vice-President of the international organization. Michelle and her husband, Warren Samberg, also served as advisors of their local chapter in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Michelle and Warren lived in Ann Arbor for three years and are excited to contribute to the Jewish community in this capacity.

JCC Maccabi Sports Program
(For teens 13-16)

Maccabi Delegation will participate in the 2008 JCC Maccabi Games in

Counselor In Training Program for
teens entering 9th and 10th grades.
This special four-week program is designed for
young people who are making the transition from camper to counselor. The
program includes training in child development, group dynamics, leadership and
team-building skills, conflict resolution, program planning, Judaic enrichment
and first aid and C.P.R.
Hands-on experience working with our campers, fun social activities and an exciting field trip are an added bonus! We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated teens that can commit to a four-week program and are looking for a challenging, fun and rewarding summer experience. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will receive an honorarium and a certificate recognizing the training program they have completed.
Junior Counselors
Camp Raanana's Junior
Counselors are entering grades ten through twelve. This paid position
requires a four-week minimum commitment. Junior Counselors must have previous experience as a C.I.T. at Camp Raanana or have
previous experience in a day camp setting. Our Junior Counselors work
directly with a Group Head Counselor who acts as a mentor and involves the J.C.
in helping to plan and execute all daily camp activities. Leadership
skills, behavior management techniques and program planning skills are practiced
and refined under the guidance of both the Group Head Counselor and the Camp
Raanana Program Director.
