Judaism in January

THURSDAY EVENINGS FROM 7:30- 8:30 p.m.

Join us as Dr. Michael Weiss teaches a fascinating 6 week mini-course. “Canon and Can Not: Probing the Boundaries of Sacred Scripture.”

"Canon and Can Not: Probing the Boundaries of Sacred Scripture".  The Hebrew Bible (Tanakh) as we know it did not come into existence all at once.  Rather, it developed gradually, over centuries, into its current canonical form.  This process was not without controversy; some books that have been regarded as canonical for nearly two thousand years were, at one time, the source of much dispute.  At the same time, certain books that were once widely regarded as canonical have dropped out of the canon.  In this set of classes we will explore the question, "What is the Bible?" by examining six test cases -- close calls and near-misses in the formation of our sacred scripture.
